Tour Program

8 Days / 7 Nights

Day 1: Bangkok To Paro

Welcome to Bhutan, the Land of the Thunder Dragon. Touching down at Paro International Airport, you will be greeted by our local guide and transfer you to the hotel for lunch.  After lunch, you can visit Kyichu Lhakhang, the oldest temple in the country built by the Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo in 8th century. This evening you can stroll through Paro town. Walking through the market and meeting with the people will be an enjoyable experience. Overnight in hotel.

 

Day 2: Paro Festival

Today you will attend the full day festival dances and celebration.

Paro Tshechu is one of the most popular tshechu in Bhutan. The festival is an honor to the teachings of Guru Rinpoche who came to Bhutan in 746 AD and introduced Buddhism in Bhutan. The festival’s masked dances are performed by monks clad in colorful brocade attire and permeated by chants and reading of Buddhist scripts. The culmination of festival constitutes the unfolding of a huge cloth thangka, a sacred scroll, depicting Padmasmabhawa and imagery from Buddhist pantheon. The mere viewing of the thongdrel (thong-see drel-liberate) is said to cleanse the viewer of sins. People from all walks of life and valleys come to Paro to witness the festival. It is a good opportunity to mingle with the locals. Overnight in hotel.


Day 3: Paro To Thimphu

You can attend festival in the morning and in the afternoon, you can drive to Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan. The road leads through the Paro Valley to the confluence of Paro and Thimphu rivers at Chuzom (confluence).  You can visit Tachog Temple Dzong which is located beside Paro Thimphu highway. The Temple was built around 1420 by Thangtong Gyalpo who was a great Saint, Blacksmith, Architect, Physician and an engineer. Check into hotel on arrival. Overnight in hotel.

Day 4: Thimphu

After Breakfast, visit 169 feet tall statue of Buddha Dordenma overlooking Thimphu valley, (It is made of copper, gilded in gold and filled with 1,25,000 smaller golden statues ). Visit Memorial Chorten-the impressive stupa built in the memory of Bhutan’s third King in 1974. . Visit 12th  century Changangkha Temple overlooking Thimphu valley- Parents traditionally come to this temple to get names for their newborns, then explore School of Arts and Crafts where you will see the students creating 13 different traditional artworks which includes painting, embroidery, weaving, woodcarving and clay work. Later in the late afternoon visit Tashi Chhodzong which houses the office of the king and Chief abbot of Bhutan (Je Khenpo). Overnight hotel in Thimphu.

Day 5: Thimphu To Punakha

Today, you will drive to Punakha over Dochula pass Dochu La pass (10,170 feet), if the weather permits, you can get spectacular views of Bhutan’s highest mountains. It is a beautiful Mountain Pass with its fluttering prayer flags and a spectacular set of 108 miniature stupas.  Continue your drive and on the way ,you can visit Chimi Lhakhang which is known for the auspicious fertility temple built by the famous divine Madman. You can visit some of the local homes to experience the traditional Bhutanese Way of living.  After lunch, visit the Punakha Dzong, which is built between the two rivers, Phochhu (Male river) and Mochhu (female river). Punakha dzong once was an ancient capital of Bhutan and today it serves as a winter residence of central body.  The old custom of moving from Thimphu to Punakha and back is still followed by the Je Khenpo (Head of Bhutan’s religious order) and the monk body. Day 6: Punakha to Paro

Today you will return to Paro via Dochula pass. On reaching at Dochula, visit the new Druk Wangyal Monastery, which is the only of its kind in the country with elaborate paintings depicting the lineage of the present monarchy and their visionary works. After lunch, continue drive to Paro. Check into hotel on arrival. Afterwards, visit Ta Dzong, built in 17th century, as watchtower to defend Paro Dzong (fortress) and the valley. This fortress was later converted into the National Museum in 1967 and is filled with antique thangka paintings, textiles, weapons and Bhutan’s renowned postage stamps.. Overnight hotel in Paro.

Day 7: Paro, Hike to Tiger's Nest Monastery

Today you will hike to Taktshang (Tiger’s Nest). It is Bhutan’s most famous monastery situated at 3180 meters. Guru Rinpoche (spiritual master), the founding father of the Bhutanese strain of Mahayana Buddhism is said to have arrived here on the back of a tigress to meditate in a cave and hence it is called “Tiger’s Nest”. It is one of the most sacred pilgrim sites for Himalayan Buddhists. Lunch will be served in the Cafeteria Restaurant, located about halfway up on the monastery. The monastery is perched on the edge of a steep cliff, about 900 meters above Paro Valley. After having explored the monastery, you will hike down to the base camp. On the way back, you can visit Drugyal Dzong-meaning “Victorious”. The Dzong was built in 1650 AD by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, the founder of Bhutan, to commemorate his victory over Tibetan army .. Overnight hotel in Paro.

Day 8: Drive to Paro Airport for Departure

Today we will bid fond farewell to this beautiful Himalayan country and take an early flight back to Singapore. We hope by now you would have made some friends and also kept many photos and beautiful memories of Bhutan! And we look forward to seeing you again in this beautiful land of endless Enchantments!
